The kutiyapi, is a Philippine two-stringed, fretted boat-lute. It is the only stringed instrument among the Maguindanao people, and one of several among other groups such as the Maranao and Manobo. It is four to six feet long with nine frets made of hardened beeswax. The instrument is carved out of solid soft wood such as from the jackfruit tree.

Common to all kutiyapi instruments, a constant drone is played with one string while the other, an octave above the drone, plays the melody with a kebit or rattan pluck (commonly made from plastic nowadays).

Check out this cool video showing a trip from Denver to Singapore via Chicago, Los Angeles and Tokyo (and back). The creator put a ton of effort into filming as much of his trip as possible, and included some highlights like the automatic beer machine at the Tokyo lounge (at 3 minutes 50 seconds).

The whole thing is quite dizzying, but it is a great way to show a long trip in just five minutes!

This is the famous Maru of "Cat in a box" fame. :) Here, she is having fun and generating laughs through her antics with a waste-can in the midst of moving preparations. Kinda reminds me of a hamster-wheel!

Through the magic of YouTube we managed to find the commercial and I watched, several times, what turns out to be one of the most powerful commercials I have ever seen; it nearly brought me to tears. The commercial is promoting health insurance and was produced for a company called Thai Insurance Company. The production is beautiful and the message is crystal clear; we simply never know what life is going to deal us – Que Sera Sera.

The children in this video are from a special school called Srisangwan School. It is a school for disabled children and is a project of the Princess Mother’s Volunteer Foundation. The commercial does a magnificent job of showing the joy in these children’s hearts and the pride in their parent’s eyes. Like it did for Bo, this commercial gives me strong feelings and I want to share it and I would especially like for people to learn about Srisangwan School.

REMASTERED:star blazers:the comet empire-a trailer.
star blazers was my first introduction to japanimation,and the japanese style of storytelling,calling it a protracted style is an under-statement.it was this serial style that i became a huge fan.
the animation was like nothing i had ever seen,disney was all i knew.
this is the show where critics had to create a new word just to describe it....anime.
i used to run home from the bus stop just to see the next installment.
you can have your "voltron",your "battle of the planets"..
"star blazers" was the first.and while the storyline contained some regrettable campy japanese aspects,the story was rich,had depth of character and for the first time in my young life...took its sci-fi seriously.
since it came out in the 70's,(yeah yeah..im dating myself)
some of you may not remember this show.while i do not mean to diss thundercats,he-man,robo-tech etc etc.
they would not ever have existed if not for star blazers.
"the comet empire" was the second in a trilogy of stories concerning the space-battleship yamato,the first being "quest for iscandar".
there was a third but i never saw it.
